Performance Assessments of Municipally Owned Utilities
How is the utility that serves the voters of your municipal district performing as
compared to other similarly situated utilities? What innovations, changes in operations and other customer service enhancements
would improve ratepayer and voter satisfaction? Are there problems with your utility that you wish to identify and solve?

Forming a Municipally Owned Utility
One mechanism that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission contemplates as a
response to noncompetitive utility service is the concept of municipalization. Under this concept, a municipal or other
governmental entity purchases or condemns utility assets within the municipal area and establishes a not for-profit public utility.
State and local law varies widely on the subject as does state public utility commission regulation. This type of action
should not be undertaken lightly. If your municipality is convinced that this is an option that must be evaluated or pursued,
contact
Energy Analytics Corporation.
Gaining Influence with the Utility Serving your Municipality
Are the voters in your municipality dissatisfied with the utility service that they are provided? Are your appeals on behalf of your voters falling on deaf ears? In many instances, municipalities have more leverage with nonresponsive utilities than either party is aware. If this is a problem for your municipality, contact Energy Analytics Corporation.

Condemning Utility Assets within a Municipality to Form a Municipally Owned Utility
Is the utility serving your municipality out of control? Has the utility or do you anticipate that the utility will in the future make poor decisions that will obligate your citizenry to pay high energy costs for the foreseeable future, stiffling economic growth in your municipality? If all other avenues have failed, your municipality may need to consider this option. State and local law varies widely on this subject as does state public utility commission regulation.
